As a program within the Lenoir City School district, the iLearn Institute is an optional school and open to students in Loudon County and counties that directly border Loudon County. Students may enroll full-time and even graduate from our school through the iLearn Institute. Additionally, learners can attend on a part-time basis taking between one (1) and three (3) courses. Full time students can select a hybrid option allowing them to take three courses virtually and one course at Lenoir City High School. Applications are accepted in both the Fall and Spring with application materials submitted on our website.

Before enrolling on a full-time basis, students and parents should consider whether online learning best serves the learner’s educational needs. iLearn is modeled after the collegiate style of online learning and delivered primarily in an asynchronous format. Please note that courses are not synchronous with “live” interaction between students and teachers. Courses are constructed around “modules and lessons” allowing students to work independently and advance at their own pace—with the support and help of a highly qualified, certified, teacher. Also note that course content cannot be modified, and students are expected to complete all course content and lessons. The following eligibility requirements apply for full-time student applicants:

The iLearn Institute has the right to accept or decline the application of any student who applies during the annual open enrollment period. The following criteria will be reviewed and taken into consideration when accepting applicants:

  1. Grades: Poor grades may indicate that students will struggle with a more independent learning environment, and a thorough review of the student’s academic file will be conducted to assess the student’s performance as well as their academic needs moving forward. All students in K-12th grade will be evaluated holistically upon their application; however, high school students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 to be considered for initial entry. Number of Credits Achieved: Students who are behind on credits are generally not accepted. Students in elementary and middle school must have a A-B average.
  2. Attendance: The student should have no more than five unexcused absences for the previous school year
  3. Preliminary Testing: The iLearn Institute may require students to demonstrate initial knowledge or understanding of material through the completion of benchmark assessments.
  4. High School Students must be at the current level of mathematics. Applicants will preferably have the following:
    • Freshmen: Must have passed 8th grade math

    • Sophomores: Must have completed Algebra I or Math I

    • Juniors: Must have completed Geometry or Math II

    • Seniors: Must have completed Algebra II or Math III

  5. Elementary and Middle School students must score proficient on the previous years state assessment in English Language Arts and Math.  Students who are too young to take a state assessment will be evaluated based upon an iReady diagnostic screening test.
  6. The applicant is on-pace to graduate, with the designated graduation cohort, in 4 years and a summer.
  7. The applicant completes all mandatory new student induction activities required by The iLearn Institute.

Students whose applications are denied have the right to appeal that decision. Anyone who would like an appeal should make that request to the iLearn Administrator within 48 hours of receiving notice of denial of admission. In these cases, a panel consisting of an iLearn Administrator and teacher will work alongside other Lenoir City Schools personnel to review any documentation submitted by the family to support enrollment.
