Family Newsletter

August 13, 2026

Dear Families,

A Few Updates from iLearn

As students, families, and staff continue getting comfortable with Edmentum, we are learning a lot and making adjustments along the way. This week's newsletter includes a few important updates and resources, especially around student progress and how families can stay connected.

One important thing to know is where to look for information. Skyward is our district's primary student information system and remains the official home for final grades, attendance, schedules, and family contact information. While we still use Genius behind the scenes, it is now primarily a tool that helps our team manage and automate parts of the virtual school experience.

For families wanting to see how their student is doing right now, Edmentum Sensei for Families is especially important. Sensei gives you a live look at course progress, grades, completed work, pacing, and student activity between official grade updates in Skyward.

As we settle into our new curriculum, our goal is to make it as easy as possible for families to know where to look, what to watch, and when to reach out for help. You'll find more information about each of these tools below.

In this issue:

Edmentum Sensei for Families

Last week, we shared information about Edmentum Sensei for Families, but we discovered that the initial invitations were not reaching our families as expected. We have now manually updated our parent and guardian contacts in Edmentum.

If you have an active email address in Skyward, you should now have received an invitation from Edmentum to register for Family Sensei. Once registered, you can view your student's grades, course progress, assignment completion, time spent working, and upcoming due dates. Check out this video or family guide for support!

Still don't see an invitation? Check your spam or junk folder first. If it's not there, reach out to us and we'll be happy to help!

Choosing the Right Edmentum Account

Students, if you are asked to choose an account when launching Edmentum, select the one that does NOT use your full email address as the username. This is the account connected to your iLearn courses and progress.

Understanding Your Pace

A quick note about pacing: Edmentum uses target dates to help students stay on track throughout a course. These are a helpful guide, but don't panic if something on the dashboard doesn't look quite right. Focus on completing your assigned coursework and reach out to your teacher if you have questions about what you should be working on or whether you're on pace.

Understanding Grades & Pacing in Edmentum

Edmentum displays a few different grades, and they each tell you something different:

  • Current Grade reflects how a student is performing on the work they have completed.
  • On-Target Grade considers the work a student should have completed by today and counts past-due activities as zeros.
  • Course Grade considers the entire course, including work that has not yet been completed.
The one to watch for pacing is the On-Target Grade. A student may have a high Current Grade but a lower On-Target Grade. This usually means they are doing well on the work they complete, but may be behind pace. Completing past-due activities will help bring the On-Target Grade back up.

Meet Your iLearn Teachers

By now, all students and families should have received an introduction from each iLearn instructor, and any required Google Meet sessions should be scheduled. These meetings are an important part of staying connected in a virtual environment and give students regular opportunities to check in, ask questions, and receive support directly from their teacher.

Please make sure students are watching their school email and Google Calendar for meeting invitations and are prepared to attend all required sessions. If you have not heard from an instructor or are unsure about a meeting expectation, please reach out!

New to iLearn? Start Here!

We are excited to welcome so many new families to iLearn this year, including many joining us from outside Lenoir City Schools! We know starting a new virtual program can come with lots of questions, so we want to help you feel welcomed and prepared.

New Family Virtual Orientation
Friday, August 14 | 12:00-1:00 PM

We’ll introduce our program, help families get connected, and answer questions about getting started.

Chromebook Pickup: Once enrollment has been confirmed by Ms. Duff, new students should pick up their Chromebook at Lenoir City Schools Central Office, 200 E. Broadway.

When Should You Reach Out?

Please don't stay stuck! Reach out if you are missing a course, see a course that shouldn't be there, can't access Edmentum, aren't sure what you should be working on, or something just doesn't look right. With a new platform, we'd much rather you ask than spend time trying to figure it out on your own.
