Eligibility
As a program within the Lenoir City School district, the iLearn Institute is an optional school and open to students in Loudon County and students throughout the state of Tennessee. Students may enroll full-time and even graduate from our school through the iLearn Institute. Additionally, learners can attend on a part-time basis taking between one (1) and three (3) courses. Full time students can select a hybrid option allowing them to take three courses virtually and one course at Lenoir City High School. Applications are accepted in both the Fall and Spring with application materials submitted on our website.
Before enrolling on a full-time basis, students and parents should consider whether online learning best serves the learner’s educational needs. iLearn is modeled after the collegiate style of online learning and delivered primarily in an asynchronous format. Please note that courses are not synchronous with “live” interaction between students and teachers. Courses are constructed around “modules and lessons” allowing students to work independently and advance at their own pace—with the support and help of a highly qualified, certified, teacher. Also note that course content cannot be modified, and students are expected to complete all course content and lessons. The following eligibility requirements apply for full-time student applicants to remain in the school once they are accepted:
The following criteria will be reviewed and taken into consideration when evaluating student progress:
- Grades: Poor grades may indicate that students will struggle with a more independent learning environment, and a thorough review of the student’s academic file will be conducted to assess the student’s performance as well as their academic needs moving forward. All students in K-12th grade will be evaluated each semester. Students should maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 at the high school level or an A / B average in grades K-8.
- Attendance: The student should have no more than five unexcused absences and not become truant.
- Elementary and Middle School students should score proficient on the previous years state assessment in English Language Arts and Math. Students who are too young to take a state assessment will be evaluated based upon an iReady diagnostic screening test.
- The student should stay on-pace to graduate, with the designated graduation cohort, in 4 years and a summer.
Students who recieve notice that they will no longer be allowed to attend the virtual school have the right to appeal that decision. Anyone who would like an appeal should make that request to the iLearn Administrator within 48 hours of receiving notice of denial of admission. In these cases, a panel consisting of an iLearn Administrator and teacher will work alongside other Lenoir City Schools personnel to review any documentation submitted by the family to support enrollment.
